It’s interesting to note how many people can’t imagine having a garden while living in an apartment. In an apartment environment, there’s always the possibility that you will have to share areas with others. This could put your plants in jeopardy. Maybe you’ll have a balcony, maybe you won’t. People who love plants and enjoy gardening stay away from living in apartments because of this perceived limitation. The truth is, however, that there are plenty of ways to grow and tend your own plants-even in a small apartment setting. It’s our pleasure to show you some simple ways you can have – and enjoy – a garden in your apartment.
Look for an apartment with a patio or balcony, if you haven’t found one yet. If you can find an apartment where the balcony faces the sun, that would be even better. You may prefer cool temperature plants that like shade, but they will still be healthier and grow better if they get some sunlight during the daytime. If finding a sunny balcony or patio isn’t feasible for you, don’t give up yet. If you take the time to learn about artificial sunlight, you will discover quickly that you have a lot of options. If there is any way possible, however, let your plants bask in direct, full sunlight for part of the day. Don’t go out and buy a bunch of costly, exotic containers for your plants. The type, or cost, of the containers you buy aren’t what’s important, and you already have enough day to day expenses to deal with. Just about any container will work. Shop around for containers, or objects that can be reused as plant containers, and buy what you need when they are priced at a discount. You might try finding some at the local thrift store or second hand store. With the money you save on containers, you can invest in organic or old-fashioned seeds that haven’t been "engineered" or maybe that special flower plant you’ve always loved.
There are a lot of advantages to using hanging plants. Have you given this option any thought? Have you considered using hanging plants for your garden? This method gives you a lot of choices if your space is limited. Your larger plants will need bigger pots to allow their roots to expand, and these containers are sometimes difficult to turn into hanging plants due to their weight. With smaller plants in small containers there are no limits. You can hang as many of these as you want and they will grow well. If kids and pets digging into the soil of your containers is a problem, make your garden with hanging plants. Your plants will thrive much better if they aren’t disturbed. There are so many different ways that you can grow a garden when you live in an apartment. You can find beautiful gardens in the homes of people who don’t have a balcony or patio to use. Patience and a little research are two secrets to having a successful indoors garden – as well as a viable plan. A perfect apartment garden will not happen overnight. A successful garden grows and adapts with you – as you try different approaches. It just requires some time and patience. So stop lamenting the fact that you don’t have a garden and start researching what you need to do.
